Blaberus.com - A Product Company
Many of us in the reptile industry have discovered
roaches recently and believe they are the “ideal”
or “perfect feeder”. We have all grown up
using crickets, dealing with their awful smells, receiving
bug infested shipments, and having them run amuck in
our homes chirping the night away. Many of us have also
turned to alternative feeder such as worms, but each
tends to have its own pitfalls. Whether in be the low
meat to shell ratio of the mealworm, or the high fat
content of the wax and silk worms. This is where the
roach family comes into play. We have found a feeder
that doesn’t make noise, has little to no smell,
has a great meat to shell ratio, and is as easy to gut
load as any feeder out there. Also, roaches are very
clean contrary to belief, and much easier to keep and
breed consistently than any of the for-mentioned feeders.
So with that being said, it’s our goal to provide
you with as many choices and as much information as
possible to give your pets what they need.

History
Hello, my name is James Tuttle and I own Blaberus.com.
I started my reptile adventure nearly 20 years ago.
Hunting on the local hills for kingsnakes and other
reptiles. After bringing home some rather un-happy reptiles
my mother (fear of snakes at the time) decided it would
be a good ideal to get me a pet boa for my birthday.
Little did she know what this would soon lead too. By
the time I was sixteen and working my collection was
off and running. Blood, Carpet, and Burmese pythons,
then Dumerils, Argentine, Guyana, and Surinam boas.
I had also tried out some monitors, tarantulas, and
tortoises. Then in the 90’s came what I still
consider the best pet in the world, the “bearded
dragon”. I breed these magnificent animals early
on before their popularity and like every one else dealt
with the typical feeders. After taking a brief break
from reptiles I jumped back in with a species I had
always longed for, the frilled dragon. It did not take
me long to acquire a group of 3.6 adults along with
some babies. I soon learned that crickets and mealworms
would not be enough for these beasts. I was going through
hundreds of cricket a day and they never seemed satisfied.
I started using pinkies as well, but the high fat content
wasn’t making them or me happy. This is when I
learned of this un-thinkable feeder called roaches.
I like many made a funny face and said you got to be
kidding me. My wife’s first reaction was not over
my dead body. I being stubborn decided to order some
roaches and give it a try. After receiving them I still
had the “WOW am I crazy”, but knew I had
to give them a chance. Since I was very lucky and was
able to purchase an adult colony, they had babies almost
right away. I was very surprised to see that they where
very small and thought I could use these to feed anything.
About a month later I had 1”+ feeders that where
ready to go. I tossed a few into the frilled cage and
it was like kids in a candy store. They where jumping
over each other to get them. As I continued to feed
them I noticed that they where keeping much better body
weight and where very healthy. Later than year I went
on to produce sixteen clutches of frilleds and hatch
plenty of babies. For an animal that has been bred very
little in captivity here in the U.S. I was very proud.
Oh wait it gets better. Usually with all these babies
running around we are scrambling to order pinhead crickets,
but wait I have thousands of tiny roaches. They worked
like a charm and every animal was eating right away.
I now keep a sizable knobtail gecko collection and have
the same successes using roaches as feeders. Many of
my brethren have switch to roaches as well. Roaches
have also become a huge part of the invert industry
as many Tarantula owners will attest to. Last but definitely
not least I have many thanks to spread. My parents for
putting up with all my crazy animals over the years,
and my dad especially for helping me construct this
wonderful site. Most of all I would like to thank my
wife and kids who are always there to back me up. My
wife is not a big reptile person and definitely not
a fan of bugs, but she also feeds and takes care of
my collection when I’m away and I can’t
thank her enough. The reptile community is made of a
great diversity of people with one common passion about
our pets. Here at blaberus.com we hope to help you in
any way we can.
Thank you,
The Tuttle Family

Future Goals
Did you know that roaches have been around for
over 300 million years? Still to this day new species
are being discovered in the jungles around the world.
We at blaberus.com continue to search for new species
that will provide more flexibility to our customers.
Look for several new species to join the list in 2005.
